Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Loss Assessor?
A Loss Assessor is appointed by a policyholder to manage, prepare and negotiate a claim on their behalf. You also may have heard of a Loss Adjuster, who too is an insurance claim professional, but instead works for and is paid by the insurance company. At CMS, we have a excellent relationship with Loss Adjusters in Northern Ireland, which helps to create a smooth and efficient process when handling your claim.
-
Why do I need a Loss Assessor?
Your insurance company will employ a Loss Adjuster to handle the claim on their behalf, so why shouldn’t you have someone to represent you! Pursuing an insurance claim can be a difficult and daunting procedure, especially if you have never done it before. Using our 30+ years experience within the industry, our aim is to achieve the maximum settlement you are entitled to within the terms of your contract, whilst minimising any stress and inconvenience caused to you.
-
What are our fees?
A loss assessing fee is not normally covered under an insurance policy. Our fees are based on a small percentage of the settlement of your claim. We work on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis to maintain a mutual interest with our clients to achieve the maximum settlement possible within the terms of their contract.
-
When should I contact a Loss Assessor?
Ideally, being appointed from the outset allows us the best attempt at progressing your claim successfully to settlement in a timely manner. Clients can contact us at any stage of their claim process; however, it can be challenging coming in at the later stages, especially when our task becomes overturning a decision already made. It is very easy to keep a claim on the tracks, but it can be difficult to get it back on once it falls off!
-
How long does it take to complete an insurance claim?
Many factors will determine the length of time a claim will take. Perhaps your claim is more complex than usual, or maybe your insurance company is experiencing a surge of claims. There are so many factors to consider when estimating timeframes. After gathering as much information on the nature of your claim, we will be able to provide you with a more accurate estimate for the timeframe of your insurance claim to manage your expectations.
-
What type of claims do CMS deal with?

What if I need to move out of my house?
Different factors can lead to the requirement for alternative accommodation, perhaps you have no access to cleaning or cooking facilities, or someone in your house suffers with a disability. Not all insurers handle this issue the same way. We at CMS can help advise you accordingly after we have reviewed your policy and gathered an understanding for your needs.

Do I have the right cover?
‘Underinsurance’ can have adverse affects to your claim settlement. It is therefore vital that you ensure you have adequate cover across buildings, contents and any high value goods. A common misconception is that your buildings sums insured value should equal the market value of your property. This is not the case at all. The costs for demolition, disposal and rebuilding of all buildings, out-buildings, driveways, fencing etc. need to be considered when calculating an accurate value for your sums insured. CMS can assist you with this when handling your insurance claim.
